CHAINS OF HUMANITARIAN ACTS EMBARKED UPON BY THE DGGHA AS A WAY OF SHOWING COMPASSION TO THE PEOPLE OF HIS WARD

For the past two weekends, Alh. Umar Oricha Shaibu Ph.D the Director General, Government House Administration (DGGHA), Lokoja has set aside ample time amidst his tight schedules to visit his ward, Agassa/Ahache/Okene-Eba in Okene Local Government Area to study critically some human angle issues begging for attention. Accompanying him on this journeys is Hon. Ismaila Umar who is serving as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Technology (SA, ICT) and also the Media Team from the Office of the DGGHA.

In his drive to see that he personally sees to the condition of his people by himself, Alh. Umar Oricha Shaibu Ph.D had to trek long distances to places that his vehicle could not access. He christened his visits targeted at alleviating the condition of the people of Agassa/Ahache/Okene-Eba Ward as part of the social responsibilities expected of the government towards the people. The DGGHA alongside his entourage were able to achieve the following:

• At Okene-Eba in a place known as Idi-Uka and also at Ahache, Alh. Umar Oricha Shaibu Ph.D was able to meet two women who were well stricken in age. The neighbours living with these women confirmed that they were matriarchs who had lived over a hundred years. The case of the old woman at Ahache was more critical. She had the disease called Perkinson and also living in a dilapidated mud house. Her daughter named Ayiva Suberu who is also aged told our team that her mother gave birth to 5 of them but she is the only one left as death was not fair to her mother. Alh. Umar Oricha Shaibu Ph.D full of compassion for their plights made cash donations to them and promised that he will inform the governor and see how best their condition can be attended to.

• Like every other parts of Kogi Central, Agassa/Ahache/Okene-Eba Ward have their own Okada Riders Association. Alh. Umar Oricha Shaibu Ph.D presented to the association two brand new motorcycles to help increase the numbers of motorcycles they already had for the purpose of transportation. Hon. Ismaila Umar (SA, ICT) presented the motorcycles to the association on behalf of the DGGHA.

• Moving forward, Alh. Umar Oricha Shaibu together with his team proceeded to Ahache Quarters to visit one Mr. Sunday who had gone blind for the past 4 years. He said he visited an eye hospital in Abuja where he was told that he came late and that they cannot do anything to help him optically. The DGGHA empathised with his condition and promised that after the lock down occasioned by COVID-19, the government will make arrangements to take him to the National Eye Centre, Kaduna for proper optical attention.

• Still at Ahache is one Onimisi popularly called Oni for short. Like every other child, Oni's mother said he was crawling and ready to start walking when all of a sudden he went totally cripple. Oni has grown into a young man but has remained crippled without a wheelchair. Despite his handicap state, Oni was able to learn shoe making as a skill. Alh. Umar Oricha Shaibu Ph.D patiently waited with his entourage to hear the sad story of how Oni became cripple. A brand new wheelchair has been given to Oni to help him with the ease of movement. The DGGHA has also promised that soon, Oni will be privileged to have the needed equipment that will help him continue with his skill of a cobbler.

• The Federal Government and Kogi State Government have been encouraging youths to embrace farming as it is one sure way of making wealth and also providing food for the nation. It is in line with this that Alh. Umar Oricha Shaibu Ph.D gave out monetary assistance to four youths from Agassa axis who showed genuine interest in farming. The cash donation was made through Hon. Ismaila Umar (SA, ICT) who implored the beneficiaries to make sure they remain focused by judiciously using the cash made available to them for the purpose of farming. He went further to tell them that a monitoring team will soon be visiting their farm sites to see the progress they have been able to make.

• Still adding value to the lives of the youths from Agassa/Ahache/Okene-Eba Ward, Alh. Umar Oricha Shaibu Ph.D made available one industrial sewing machine and tailoring accessories to one Abubakar Aliyu who is a fashion designer. Also, the DGGHA empowered one Suleiman Bashiru who is a cobbler with a shoe making machine and accessories. Hon. Ismaila Umar, (SA, ICT) was also on ground to give these professional equipment to the beneficiaries.

• The saying that "health is wealth" is one that cannot be overemphasized. The health condition of one Miss Nafisat Oyiza Salihu was really in bad shape until Alh. Umar Oricha Shaibu Ph.D waded into her matter. She was suffering from tumor, an abnormal growth that suddenly grew big on her mouth. The DGGHA orchestrated the surgery that has since been performed on her and gradually she is recovering. Mall. Yahaya Salihu, the father of the patient appreciated the kind gesture of the DGGHA who he said came to remove them from the financial lack that would have led to the demise of their daughter.

• One particular area that interests Alh. Umar Oricha Shaibu Ph.D is to see to the rapid development of his Ward: Agassa/Ahache/Okene-Eba. As part of his visiting the people of his Ward to give them succour, he also took his time to look at the erosion control project ongoing at Agassa by Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP). He commended those at the different sites working to control the erosion eating up part of Agassa land and also chipped in his own little suggestions to the work that is already in progress.

• The climax of Alh. Umar Oricha Shaibu Ph.D visit to his Ward was the provision of foodstuffs which includes bags of beans, millet and rice even as the Muslim Ramadan fasting season kicks off. This is also in line with providing palliatives for the people of his Ward as COVID-19 has stopped the economic progress of many. The people of Agassa/Ahache/Okeneba were all full of praises for the foodstuffs made available by the DGGHA as they admitted it will go a long way to wade off hunger during the fasting period.

It is worthy to note that Alh. Umar Oricha Shaibu Ph.D always gave glory to God Almighty and also to His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello at every point in time. He always spells it out that were it not for the governor, the position he is occupying today would not have been his and that whatever he is doing to any individual or collection of people is all to the praise and honour of the governor who saw him as a right hand to man the position he has placed him.
